Bible Reference: ‘“For by grace are ye save through faith: and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God”. Eph.2:8’ (Eph 2:8 KJV).
Growing up in the church, I had heard the message so many times that God sent his son to die for my sins, that I eventually, I begin to tune it out. Yea, I understand all that. Now let’s move on to something else, I would think. But evidently like many Christian I didn’t understand it, because we began to believe that God acceptance of us does based on our ability to do the right things.
We thought if we study our Bible and prayed, God would be more pleased with us and more likely to use us than on a day when we overslept and missed our quiet time. But we need to see that even on our best day, when we seem to be doing everything right. We’re still a sinner. We never keep God’s commands perfectly. That is why we need God grace in the first place.
A story was told of a pastor who had a daughter, Esther. During high school, she was enrolled in an honours English class. The first day of the class the teacher talked about her expectations and hauled out an overview of what they’d be studying.
Esther was completely overwhelmed. She came home and told her father, he had to go and talk with the teacher to get her out of the class. He agreed to set up a conference during which he and the teacher struck an agreement. The teacher wanted Esther to remain in the class, so she offered to give her an “A” from the very beginning with the understanding that Esther still do the work and participate in class discussion. Esther agreed to the arrangement. And do you know what the teacher found? Esther turned in “A” work anyway. The teacher remove the threat of failure, and in its absence, Esther excelled

So if you fail to realize that you are saved by grace and that the grace of God is sufficient to make you pleasing in His presence, no matter what you do, the joy of pleasing God will be far away from your soul. Remember! God accept you by grace not because of anything you did.
